Welcome to Slow Food Ottawa

Slow Food is a world wide movement to slow the fast pace of our lives and reconnect with the food we eat, revive our commitment to our communities and the environment.

Slow Food is about our food

Slow Food Ottawa was founded in 2002 by a group of people who really cared about the food they were eating, wanted to eat, and wished to eat in the future. We saw the importance of supporting local farmers and producers to protect the regional cuisine and heritage foods of the Ottawa Valley. We are trying to control the accelerating pace of our lives and the slow the move to processed and fast food, and relearn what traditional food tastes like when it is fresh local and produced sustainably by someone that cares.
We think about what we are eating, how it was grown, how far it had to travel to get to us, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Slow Food is about the People who are passionate about Food

Slow Food Ottawa is a growing, enthusiastic group of individuals and couples, young and experienced who like to share their knowledge of food, where they found it or how they grew it and how to easy it was to prepare or cook it.  We gather around tables all over the region to taste and share delicious seasonal food, often grown in our own gardens or produced by local small-scale purveyors. This all volunteer chapter is dedicated to the core idea of having respect for the food on our table and for the people who produce it. We share our love of good food and inspire each other and face challenges together.

Slow Food Ottawa connects people with their food

We organize, dinners, workshops, foraging excursions, food and wine tastings and visits to farms and farmers markets.
Slow Food supports local farmers, producers, restaurants, cooks, artisan bakers, cheese makers, wineries, and micro-breweries that support other local sustainable producers and suppliers and us.
We are constantly helping to connect people with the food they want, and producers with new consumers that are looking for better local sustainable food options.
